Barre Classes
Barre classes are designed to be a full-body, muscle endurance workout focusing on major muscle groups, including the arms, legs, glutes, and core. The muscles in each group are fatigued via small targeted movements, high repetitions, and light weights or resistance bands.
Think pulsing squats that target the glutes and quads, cranking out as many triceps kickbacks as possible with 3 pound weights, or moving through a lively plank sequence. In addition to building strength, this full-body workout also develops agility and flexibility. In some classes, the barre and your body weight will be used for muscle-burning move equipment like resistance bands, sliders, ankle weights, free weights, exercise balls, etc. will be used.
Our professional, expert, and caring instructors provide a whole-body workout regardless of your skill level, athletic ability, or body type. They are licensed and trained to support each of our client’s fitness journeys.
The Benefits of Mat/Barre Classes
-
Strength and Tone
Mat and barre classes involve exercises that target specific muscle groups, such as the core, arms, legs, and glutes. These classes typically incorporate body weight exercises, resistance training, and isometric movements that can help strengthen and tone your muscles, improving overall strength and a sculpted physique. -
Core Stability
Both mat and barre classes focus on developing core strength. A strong core provides stability and support to the spine and helps improve posture. You can enhance your core stability and develop a strong and stable midsection through targeted exercises, including Pilates-inspired movements. -
Flexibility and Range of Motion
Mat and barre classes often incorporate stretches and exercises that help improve flexibility and increase range of motion. These classes emphasize elongating and stretching the muscles, enhancing overall flexibility and joint mobility. -
Posture Improvement
The exercises in mat and barre classes typically emphasize proper alignment and posture. Maintaining good posture during movements can improve your body awareness and develop better postural habits. Over time, this can lead to improved posture, reduced muscular imbalances, and decreased risk of injury.
-
Balance and Coordination
Barre classes, in particular, involve movements that challenge balance and coordination. The ballet barre and various standing exercises help improve balance and proprioception (awareness of your body in space). These classes can benefit individuals looking to enhance their balance, stability, and coordination skills. -
Low-Impact Workout
Mat and barre classes typically offer gentle, low-impact workouts on the joints while providing an effective workout. This makes them suitable for individuals of various fitness levels, including those recovering from injuries or who prefer a lower-impact exercise routine. -
Mind-Body Connection
Mat and barre classes often incorporate mindfulness, breathing techniques, and body awareness elements. Through focused movements and concentration, these classes can help you develop a stronger mind-body connection, allowing you to be more present at the moment and cultivate a sense of mindfulness during your practice.
